Sauron Actor Charlie Vickers ‘Cried’ Stepping on Rings of Power Season 3 Set to Forge the One Ring
The Rings of Power Season 3 will feature the forging of the One Ring, one of the most pivotal moments in Tolkien’s Middle-earth mythology. Co-showrunner Patrick McKay confirmed that this ambitious sequence will air when the season premieres this November, with the production being substantial enough to require two weeks of filming.
Actor Charlie Vickers, who portrays the dark lord Sauron, was visibly moved by stepping onto the set for this iconic scene. Speaking to Empire magazine, McKay revealed that Sauron’s emergence in his true form during the ring-forging represents a significant tonal shift for the series. “This is the season where Sauron makes the One Ring in the volcano,” McKay stated, emphasizing that his character’s unveiled appearance “changes the tone of the show.”
Co-showrunner J.D. Payne added that Season 3 will take a darker, more dangerous direction overall. According to McKay, the installment promises higher stakes, with the warning that “no one is safe.” This marks a major escalation from previous seasons, as viewers will finally see Sauron undertake the creation of the artifact that will define the entire saga.
The sequence’s significance both narratively and practically—requiring two full weeks of production—underscores the showrunners’ commitment to realizing this crucial moment authentically.
