Tencent could acquire Playtika-owned SuperPlay for up to $1.5bn, says report

Tencent is in advanced talks to acquire Playtika’s SuperPlay studio in a deal valued at up to $1.5 billion. SuperPlay, founded in 2024 by former Playtika employees Gilad Almog and Eyal Netzer along with veteran designer Elad Drory (formerly of TabTale and Rovio), has become a major success story in the mobile gaming space with its hit title Dice Dreams.

Playtika’s initial acquisition of SuperPlay for $700 million in 2024 included a performance-based payout of up to $1.25 billion for hitting specific targets between 2025 and 2027. The studio employed approximately 240 staff at acquisition. Reports indicate that SuperPlay’s rapid success and the resulting financial obligations tied to these performance milestones have become a burden for Playtika, prompting the company to explore divestiture.

The potential sale to Tencent would represent a significant return on Playtika’s investment, reflecting SuperPlay’s strong monetization performance and market position in mobile gaming.
