“Professional lurker” Todd Howard reappears on internet forums following Bethesda’s Fallout and Elder Scrolls announcements to thank fans for their support

Bethesda Game Studios leader Todd Howard has made a rare appearance on Reddit, thanking fans for their support following the company’s announcement of its development roadmap. Posting in r/Games—only his second public comment on the platform in three years—Howard stated that Bethesda is “constantly listening” to community feedback.

The post came shortly after Bethesda revealed plans for its flagship franchises, including confirmation that The Elder Scrolls 6 is in development with Bethesda Game Studios, while a new Fallout title is being developed in collaboration with Obsidian Entertainment. ZeniMax Online is also expanding its work on The Elder Scrolls’ existing live service projects. These announcements followed sweeping layoffs across Xbox’s division earlier in the month.

Howard also revealed that he is an active Reddit lurker, noting that he is surprised by how many great game ideas originate from community discussions on the platform. The revelation prompted fans to immediately request features and updates, including calls for an Oblivion remaster.

The appearance marks a notable moment of transparency from Bethesda leadership regarding the company’s strategic direction and partnerships with other studios during a period of significant industry change.
