Indie Publisher Will ‘Safeguard’ Devs by Making PS5 Physical Games for All Eligible Titles
Chinese indie publisher Astrolabe Games has released a manifesto pledging to continue producing physical PS5 releases for all of its eligible titles through January 2028, when Sony plans to cease PS5 disc manufacturing. The company framed the commitment as a means to “safeguard developers’ creations” by ensuring physical copies remain available for projects meeting basic eligibility requirements. The announcement arrives as the gaming industry transitions toward all-digital distribution, with this final window representing one of the last opportunities for physical PS5 releases. While characterized as dramatic and performative in tone, Astrolabe Games’ initiative highlights ongoing efforts to preserve physical game ownership and developer work as the console generation enters its final phase.
