Cliff Bleszinski, the lead designer of Xbox 360’s original Gears of War trilogy, wants to work full-time on video games again after an eight-year hiatus

Cliff Bleszinski, the legendary lead designer behind Xbox 360’s original Gears of War trilogy, has expressed a desire to return to full-time game development after an eight-year hiatus from the industry.

Bleszinski stepped away from game development in 2018 following the closure of his studio, Boss Key Productions. The company shuttered after its two major titles—Lawbreakers and Radical Heights—failed to achieve commercial success. This marked a significant departure for the designer who had been instrumental in establishing the Gears franchise as a cornerstone of the Xbox 360’s mid-to-late 2000s dominance.

In a recent interview with 80.lv, Bleszinski discussed his interest in returning to the industry on a full-time basis. The interview reportedly included a detailed analysis of the factors that led to Boss Key Productions’ failure, including publishing deal terms, platform choices, and key partnership decisions that the studio made during its operation.
