Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands appears to be getting a PS5 and Xbox Series X/S Definitive Edition, but is it a remaster or a bog standard re-release?
Ubisoft is set to release a Definitive Edition of Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. The remastered version, which comes as the 2017 open-world co-op shooter approaches its ten-year anniversary next March, will feature technical enhancements including 4K resolution and 60 frames-per-second performance, a new story mission, and all previously released downloadable content.
The Definitive Edition is part of what Ubisoft describes as an “upgrade treatment” initiative, designed to maintain player engagement with the Ghost Recon franchise while the company develops its next mainline entry, currently codenamed Project OVR. According to reports, the upcoming mainline title has undergone significant changes following a failed alpha test, with features such as helicopters and proximity mines being cut from the game.
Ubisoft has officially confirmed that it will reveal more details about Ghost Recon’s future during the series’ 25th anniversary celebration on August 6, 2026. This announcement comes following recent leaks and reports about the Definitive Edition and the status of Project OVR.
