Unity 7 is coming Q1 2027
Unity has announced Unity 7, the next version of its game creation platform, with an early beta launching in December 2026 and a full release targeted for Q1 2027. The announcement was made at Unite Seoul.
Unity is positioning version 7 around collaborative development, emphasizing how developers, artists, producers, and coding agents increasingly work together throughout the full development cycle. The company has prioritized backward compatibility and ease of transition, promising that “all projects, skills, and code will carry forward smoothly” from Unity 6, with “no rebuilding, no new language to learn, nothing broken in the transition.”
On the graphics front, Unity 7 introduces real-time global illumination through Surface Cache GI, featuring AI-assisted optimization that scales the effect from high-end PCs to mobile devices. The update also brings improvements to collaborative workflows, with a more open approach allowing contributors using third-party tools to participate in projects more easily without requiring the full Unity editor.
Monetization features have been expanded with what Unity describes as “smarter growth and monetisation” systems, including native direct-to-consumer in-app purchases, no-code webshops, and a unified catalog to simplify revenue generation.
While the announcement acknowledges generative AI’s role in modern game development, Unity appears to be taking a measured approach to AI integration—positioning these tools as optional enhancements rather than requirements.
