Hasbro records $56M write down after scrapping ‘several’ video games

Hasbro has recorded a $56 million non-cash impairment charge against its video game portfolio, driven by the cancellation of “several” games scheduled for release in 2028 and beyond. The decision was announced by CEO Chris Cocks during the company’s Q2 2026 earnings call, reflecting a comprehensive strategic review of Hasbro’s digital future.

The writedown represents capitalized costs associated with cancelled projects, though Hasbro has not publicly identified which specific titles were scrapped. Industry reporting indicates a D&D title in development at Giant Skull was among the cancelled games. The decision reflects a new standard Hasbro is applying across its digital portfolio, focusing investment on franchises with clear commercial upside and “meaningful opportunities beyond the initial game.”

Despite the portfolio restructuring, Hasbro expressed confidence in its remaining digital games lineup. The company continues to move forward with major projects scheduled for 2027, including Exodus from Archetype Entertainment and Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons. Hasbro, which owns Wizards of the Coast and controls major franchises including D&D and Magic The Gathering, said it is concentrating resources on “platforms and partners where we see the clearest upside” for long-term value creation.
