Star Wars Zero Company’s story ‘is a linear one from beginning to end’, Bit Reactor says, so don’t expect branching paths or romance options
Star Wars Zero Company, the upcoming tactics RPG from developer Bit Reactor, is taking a cinematic approach to narrative-driven gameplay, prioritizing character development and storytelling through high-production cutscenes, squad dialogue, and tactical customization systems.
However, players expecting branching narrative paths or romance options should recalibrate expectations. In a recent Discord Q&A, Bit Reactor clarified that Star Wars Zero Company features a “linear” story “from beginning to end,” with no player choices affecting the overall narrative direction or branching outcomes.
The studio is emphasizing a cinematic, character-focused experience over player agency in storytelling. Narrative director Aaron Contreras explained to PC Gamer that while the game’s cast will feature genuine character conflict, the linear structure keeps the story’s direction entirely in the developers’ hands.
Despite this constraint, the game offers engagement through squad customization, upgrades, and tactical combat. Bit Reactor is betting on compelling character writing and production values rather than narrative choice mechanics to drive player interest. This represents the studio’s attempt to push the tactics RPG genre forward with a focused, cinematic storytelling approach—prioritizing narrative quality and character relationships over player-driven branching paths.
