Amazon clarifies stance on 007: First Light sequel – “Given the success of this one, I think you probably want IOI developing it”

Amazon has clarified its position on the future of James Bond video games following confusion sparked by earlier comments about potential sequels to 007: First Light. Jeff Gattis, general manager for Amazon Luna and Amazon Game Studios, had previously suggested that future Bond game sequels would be developed by “MGM and, theoretically, by Amazon Game Studios,” raising concerns among fans and media pleased with IO Interactive’s work on First Light.

In recent statements to gaming media, Gattis walked back those comments, clarifying that no decisions have been made regarding the developer or publisher of future Bond games. He acknowledged First Light’s commercial success and suggested that IO Interactive’s strong performance makes them a natural choice for sequels, stating “Given the success of this one, I think you probably want IOI developing it.”

The clarification addresses industry concern that Amazon might remove the franchise from IO Interactive despite the game’s positive reception. While Amazon owns the James Bond IP rights, IO Interactive developed and published First Light. Gattis emphasized that Amazon will “do what’s right by the game” when making future decisions. The executive also noted that “anything’s possible” regarding a potential acquisition of IO Interactive by Amazon, suggesting multiple partnership paths forward.
