Dinoblade, out now, is equal parts janky, genuinely sick and silly as hell
Dinoblade, developed by Jean Nguyen, has officially released. The game’s origins trace back four years when Nguyen shared a viral animation clip on Dwitter featuring a spinosaurus wielding Cloud Strife’s Buster Sword from Final Fantasy VII. What began as a brief animation eventually evolved into a full game.
The premise embraces intentional absurdity: following a cataclysmic event, dinosaurs battle each other using various bladed weapons. Players control a spinosaurus protagonist who forges a mysterious pact with an ambiguous entity of unclear intent. The game is characterized as deliberately janky and over-the-top, delivering genuine entertainment through its commitment to silly, unconventional design.
Dinoblade’s appeal stems from its willingness to lean into its rough-edged nature and outlandish concept without taking itself seriously, creating an experience that balances technical imperfection with authentic fun.
