Resident Evil Actor Reveals His Inspirations For Leon Kennedy, And They Aren’t What You Expect

Voice actor Nick Apostolides has shared the creative process behind his portrayal of Leon Kennedy in Capcom’s recent Resident Evil remakes. In a Cameo video, Apostolides revealed an unconventional approach to character preparation: drawing inspiration from iconic music spanning metal and grunge genres.

For Resident Evil 2, Apostolides turned to Nirvana, explaining that the band’s “grunge, rock energy” provided the ideal emotional headspace to capture a young Leon’s character. Moving to Resident Evil 4, he shifted his musical focus to Alice in Chains, specifically citing the tracks “Them Bones” and “Would” as key influences for shaping the character’s voice and performance.

For his work on Resident Evil Requiem, Apostolides embraced heavier material, drawing from Metallica’s catalog to achieve the intense energy needed for the role. He identified Metallica’s instrumental track “Orion” as his personal favorite song of all time, using it as a core inspiration for his portrayal in the game.

The revelation offers an interesting glimpse into voice acting methodology, demonstrating how performers often use unconventional tools to find authentic emotional tones and character voices. Apostolides’ approach reflects a broader creative practice in performance capture where artists draw from diverse artistic sources to inform compelling character interpretations.
