Resident Evil movie gets another spooky trailer, and features a fun game reference for keen-eyed fans
A new trailer has been released for director Zach Cregger’s upcoming Resident Evil movie adaptation, providing a more story-focused look at the project compared to the gore-heavy April trailer. The film follows Bryan (Austin Abrams), a medical courier who accepts a lucrative but dangerous delivery job to Raccoon City General Hospital, only to find himself caught in a nightmarish outbreak of bioweapon-infected creatures.
The trailer showcases familiar Resident Evil imagery and Easter eggs designed to appeal to longtime fans of the Capcom survival-horror series, including iconic items such as typewriters, first-aid kits, and shotgun ammunition. Director Cregger, known for his work on Weapons and Barbarian, has stated his deep affinity for the franchise and emphasized that while the film tells an entirely original story set during the infamous Raccoon City Incident, it will incorporate numerous references for eagle-eyed enthusiasts.
Unlike previous Resident Evil film adaptations featuring established game characters like Leon Kennedy, Cregger’s version introduces a new protagonist and narrative arc while maintaining the series’ core atmosphere and themes surrounding the Umbrella Corporation’s bioweapons. The film is scheduled for release on September 18, 2026.
