Steam’s latest update finally brings order to the chaos of your wishlist, and might even nudge people into buying you some new games
Valve has released a Steam update introducing custom wishlist categories that allow users to organize games according to self-defined criteria such as “old school remakes,” “buy when on sale,” or “wait for reviews.” Categories appear at the top of the wishlist page and enable single-click filtering, addressing long-standing user requests to better manage increasingly large wishlists.
The update also enables customized notifications filtered by category, ensuring users receive alerts only for specified categories when games go on sale, transition from Early Access to full release, or make demos available.
Significantly, Valve has expanded its gifting capabilities to allow non-Steam users to purchase individual games as gifts. Previously limited to digital gift card purchases, non-Steam users can now gift specific games directly using either a shared wishlist link or the recipient’s email address. This removes barriers for people without Steam accounts who wish to purchase games for friends or family.
The update also includes improvements to the wishlist search functionality. These changes represent Valve’s response to user feedback seeking better wishlist management tools and more accessible gifting options.
