Vermila Studios lays off its staff, studio closure a ‘feasible possibility’ in coming months

Vermila Studios, the developer of the survival horror shooter Crisol: Theater of Idols, has laid off all staff members and faces potential closure within months. The Blumhouse Games-published title launched on February 10, 2026, but less than six months later, the studio initiated redundancy procedures that eliminated the entire workforce.

CEO David Carrasco confirmed the layoffs in a statement, acknowledging financial difficulties and noting that “closure is a feasible possibility in the upcoming months,” though the studio has not officially shut down at this time. Staff members have begun posting farewell messages on social media.

Reports of the studio’s closure initially circulated on social media from former game designer Raúl Pernía Alejandro, describing a formal redundancy procedure. However, these early reports were clarified as premature, with the studio technically still operating despite the dire circumstances.

The timing represents a significant setback for Vermila Studios, with its main release failing to generate sufficient revenue to sustain operations. The fate of Crisol: Theater of Idols remains unclear, particularly regarding ongoing support or potential preservation efforts for the title.
