Marvel’s Wolverine Actor Reveals The Performance That Terrified Him

Liam McIntyre, known for his role in Spartacus, plays Wolverine in Insomniac Games’ upcoming Marvel’s Wolverine title. Like other Sony first-party games, the project uses motion-capture technology to capture authentic performances from its cast.

McIntyre discussed his approach to portraying the iconic mutant character, particularly Wolverine’s feral berserker state—the intense combat mode that emerges during battle. He initially considered referencing rabid dogs to capture the animalistic fury of this form, though he acknowledged that such reference material is difficult to source and “probably for the best” that it is.

McIntyre’s portrayal of the berserker state became so intense and convincing that it alarmed the Insomniac Games development team. Despite initially feeling apprehensive about pushing the performance to its limits and fully committing to the character’s ferocity, McIntyre found the studio’s team to be supportive and encouraging of his dedicated approach to bringing depth and authenticity to Wolverine’s dual nature.
