After laying off Battlefield 6 devs, EA boss Andrew Wilson’s bonus rose $8m to $38m last year, thanks to the game’s success across “all milestones”

EA CEO Andrew Wilson received $38.7 million in total compensation for the 2026 fiscal year, a significant $8 million raise from the previous year, according to the company’s mandatory Securities and Exchange Commission filing. His compensation package comprised approximately $1.3 million in base salary, $28 million in stock awards, and $6.5 million in bonus compensation.

The substantial increase was attributed to EA’s achievement of key strategic and operating objectives, including the record-breaking success of Battlefield 6 and EA Sports FC, as well as progress in implementing generative AI technologies. Battlefield 6 was the highest-selling game of 2025, outselling Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 and NBA 2K26, with over seven million copies sold in just three days.

However, the timing raises concerns about corporate priorities. Just five months after Battlefield 6’s landmark launch in late 2025, EA laid off an undetermined number of developers across its Battlefield teams in March 2026, citing a need to “better align” resources with community priorities. This followed additional layoffs across multiple EA studios affecting employees in both development and non-development roles in the United States and India.

The compensation disparity further underscores the issue: Wilson’s $38 million payout represents a 305-to-1 ratio compared to EA’s median employee compensation of approximately $126,612. The structure highlights broader tensions in the gaming industry regarding executive compensation levels amid studio restructuring.
