FF14’s new zone has a creepy backrooms void tucked just underneath it, filled with horrible milky ruins and what I deem to be far too many arms

Final Fantasy 14’s latest patch has introduced North Horn, the final exploration zone planned for the current expansion cycle. As part of FF14’s exploration zone feature, North Horn contributes to what players describe as a much-needed sense of cooperative discovery and engagement. The zone contains new Phantom Jobs for players to level up, along with various collectibles and activities to discover.

Hidden beneath the surface of North Horn lies a distinctive underground void area with a distinctly eerie aesthetic. Accessible through winding, sloped tunnels that descend from the zone’s center, this subterranean space features peculiar visual design including milky-hued ruins and unsettling imagery characterized by an abundance of arm-like elements. The bizarre environment contrasts sharply with FF14’s typical fantasy aesthetic, introducing surreal and mildly horrific elements into an otherwise conventional exploration experience.

This design choice represents Square Enix’s incorporation of experimental, horror-adjacent content within FF14’s established world, encouraging thorough exploration and rewarding curious players with genuinely unusual discovery moments.
