The 10 best board games to play at Gen Con 2026
Gen Con, North America’s largest and longest-running tabletop convention, kicks off July 30 in Indianapolis with its annual showcase of the year’s hottest board games. The convention’s Exhibit Hall serves as the centerpiece, featuring vendors from around the world demonstrating their latest products. While free demos run throughout the weekend, competitive shoppers line up early as products frequently sell out within hours—many games won’t see wide retail availability for months after the convention.
Polygon highlights 10 must-play games from the event, including highly anticipated licensed tie-ins based on Star Trek and The Lord of the Rings franchises. The article provides both a guide for attendees planning their first stops at the convention and preorder links for those unable to attend in person or who miss out on purchasing opportunities on-site.
