Halo: Campaign Evolved On PC Has A Hidden Feature You Need A Mod To Access

Halo: Campaign Evolved’s PC version is missing a feature that’s present on Xbox and PlayStation 5: local split-screen co-op. The console versions support split-screen multiplayer, but the PC port was released with this feature disabled, forcing PC players to use only online co-op.

However, a community mod has restored the missing functionality. A Nexus Mods user named Jpurd released “Halo Campaign Evolved Split-screen Coop,” which simply unlocks the split-screen option that was already present in the game code but inaccessible to players.

The mod does come with limitations. It supports only two players via split-screen, despite the game’s ability to handle four-player co-op sessions. It also requires both players to use controllers and reportedly only works for Steam users. The mod was notably created using AI assistance, according to its description.

PC Gamer notes this omission is particularly frustrating given the platform’s current relevance for local co-op play. The rise of living room PCs and local game streaming has made split-screen functionality increasingly valuable on PC, making the PC version’s feature parity with consoles a legitimate concern for players seeking couch co-op experiences.
