UK Games Fund announces largest cohort of indie studios to receive grants of up to £100,000
The UK Games Fund has announced its largest funding cohort since launching in 2015, with 29 independent studios across the United Kingdom receiving grants of up to £100,000 each through the expanded Prototype Fund.
According to UK Games Fund director Kirsty Gibson, the initiative received a strong response following the reopening of applications in April, with submissions from highly talented teams developing ambitious and innovative projects. The funding initiative is designed to support independent studios in developing original intellectual property, advancing their projects, creating jobs, and strengthening their ability to attract further investment.
The Prototype Fund specifically targets early-stage development, helping studios move their concepts toward commercial viability. By providing capital at this crucial stage, the program enables developers to build prototypes and validate gameplay concepts before seeking additional funding from investors or publishers.
This expansion of the Prototype Fund represents a significant commitment to supporting the UK’s independent games development sector, which has become an increasingly important part of the country’s creative industries. The funding aims to foster innovation and help emerging studios establish themselves in a competitive global market.
