This 8BitDo controller has a killer aesthetic and great for PC gamers but won’t win over the couch console crowd
8BitDo has launched a retro-themed accessory line celebrating classic Xbox aesthetics, featuring a keyboard, mouse, and controller in signature Xbox green styling. The 8BitDo Ultimate 3-Mode Xbox Controller in Jade is the latest addition to the peripheral maker’s offerings, targeting nostalgic gaming enthusiasts and collectors.
The controller’s primary appeal lies in its visual design and aesthetic cohesion with the broader retro Xbox accessory ecosystem. The device features three connectivity modes; however, true wireless functionality for Xbox is notably absent from the available options, limiting its utility for console gamers seeking a wireless solution on that platform.
For PC gamers, the controller proves more versatile, offering stronger compatibility and a compelling option for those seeking to build a matching retro Xbox-themed setup with the accompanying keyboard and mouse. The third-party pricing is positioned as more accessible than anticipated official Xbox alternatives, which industry observers expect would command a premium price point should Microsoft eventually release its own ‘X25’ anniversary line of branded accessories.
The review highlights that while the 8BitDo Ultimate controller delivers on aesthetic appeal and serves PC users effectively, console players seeking a true wireless Xbox experience may find their options limited. The product ultimately caters to a specific demographic: PC gamers and retro collectors who prioritize visual consistency and nostalgia over cutting-edge wireless features.
