D&D Icons brings back legendary creators for Dragonlance, Greyhawk, and Drizzt adventures
Dungeons & Dragons announced a new product line called D&D Icons during the D&D Vision Keynote 2027 at Gen Con, designed to bring legendary creators back to the franchise for new stories. The initiative will focus on iconic D&D worlds including Dragonlance, Greyhawk, and continuing adventures featuring Drizzt Do’Urden.
The project reunites some of D&D’s most influential minds: Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman, the original architects of the Dragonlance setting; R.A. Salvatore, the creator of Drizzt Do’Urden; and Luke Gygax, son of D&D co-founder Gary Gygax. Actor, producer, and D&D enthusiast Joe Manganiello will serve as chief creative officer for the D&D Icons line, bringing both creative vision and industry credibility to the initiative. Manganiello is also developing his own D&D setting alongside this role.
The D&D Icons line represents Wizards of the Coast’s strategy to leverage nostalgia and established fan connections by reuniting fans with the creators most associated with D&D’s most celebrated eras. This announcement comes as part of a broader effort to expand D&D’s creative output and maintain engagement with longtime fans while potentially attracting new audiences through the prestige of these legendary names in tabletop gaming history.
