Nintendo Expands Switch 2’s GameCube Library With Another Game In August

Nintendo is expanding its Switch Online subscription service with a pair of August 2026 additions to its Nintendo Classics catalog. The company will add the GameCube classic Super Mario Sunshine on August 13th, marking its return to the subscription service following the delisting of the Super Mario 3D All-Stars collection. Originally released in 2002, Sunshine remains one of the GameCube’s most distinctive platformers, sending players to the tropical Isle Delfino armed with a water-spraying jetpack.

Additionally, Nintendo will revive two unreleased Virtual Boy titles—Zero Racers and D-Hopper—on August 4th. These cancelled games have never been commercially available in their original form, representing a significant moment in game preservation efforts. The company initially announced the Virtual Boy revival project earlier this year in January, and the library has been receiving regular updates since joining Nintendo Classics earlier in 2026.

The additions reflect Nintendo’s ongoing commitment to making its classic catalog available through the Switch Online subscription service, building on the success of the Virtual Boy library’s recent launch. Both additions highlight the value of preserving and bringing previously lost games to modern audiences through legitimate channels.
