The truth behind the resurrection of Poinpy
Devolver Digital has successfully resurrected Poinpy, the mobile platformer that disappeared from Netflix Games approximately one year ago. Originally launched as an exclusive title on Netflix’s gaming platform in 2022, Poinpy was delisted after Netflix made a significant strategic pivot in its gaming business. The streaming giant refocused its gaming efforts on casual and party titles optimized for television viewing with virtual controllers—a move that diverged sharply from supporting mobile-focused games.
This broader strategic realignment affected multiple titles and development studios beyond Poinpy. Monument Valley 3 and indie studio Spry Fox were among the casualties of Netflix’s gaming consolidation, as the company concentrated on accessible, casual experiences designed for family entertainment on large screens.
Interestingly, Devolver Digital co-founder Nigel Lowrie suggests the true explanation for Poinpy’s delisting was far less dramatic than being caught in Netflix’s gaming strategy overhaul. According to Lowrie, the reason behind Poinpy’s removal from Netflix Games was considerably more mundane than industry observers might have assumed.
