Delightful Point-And-Click Murder Mystery ‘Thimbleweed Park’ Is Getting A Sequel

After a decade of waiting since the original 2017 release, Thimbleweed Park 2 has been officially announced and is scheduled for early 2028. The sequel is being developed by Ron Gilbert and Gary Winnick, the veteran LucasArts creators behind Maniac Mansion, who also directed the acclaimed original Thimbleweed Park.

The original point-and-click adventure game became a beloved indie title, praised for its challenging puzzles, quirky characters, and intriguing murder mystery plot set in a small town. It earned an 84% review score and drew comparisons to classic LucasArts titles like Monkey Island, Day of the Tentacle, and Zak McCracken due to its distinctive pixel art visual style.

Ron Gilbert has described the upcoming sequel in unconventional terms, stating it is “not really a sequel, not really a prequel,” instead positioning it as simply “more Thimbleweed Park.” The developers plan to self-publish the game with backing from a private investor, marking an independent approach to bringing the next entry to players.

This announcement comes after news that a different Gilbert project—described as blending “Classic Zelda, Diablo, and Thimbleweed Park”—was cancelled at the end of the previous year.
