Unity brings dedicated engine support to Netflix Games

Unity has announced dedicated engine support for Netflix Games, streamlining game development across Netflix’s multi-platform entertainment ecosystem. The partnership aims to reduce development friction and make it easier for studios to create titles optimized for Netflix’s mobile and cloud gaming platforms.

The dedicated support includes specific optimizations tailored for Netflix’s cloud gaming infrastructure, enabling developers to “build one and ship across multiple platforms.” This approach eliminates the need to manage separate versions for different devices, allowing studios to maintain a single build while reaching Netflix’s player base across smartphones, tablets, and streaming devices.

Several Netflix Games titles have already demonstrated the viability of this approach. These existing Unity-powered games include Unhinged, Black Mirror: Thronglets, and Squid Game: Unleashed—showing how popular entertainment properties are being adapted into interactive experiences within Netflix’s gaming ecosystem.

This partnership reflects Unity’s broader strategy to support emerging gaming platforms and publishers, positioning the engine as a flexible solution for cross-platform game distribution. By reducing technical barriers to development, the collaboration could accelerate Netflix’s ability to expand its game library while attracting independent and mid-tier studios to develop for the platform.
