Review: Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (Switch) - Monolith Soft Doing What It Does Best, Albeit With The Occasional Flaw

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is receiving an enhanced port for the Nintendo Switch 2, releasing today alongside a physical edition. The game, originally published in November 2017 for the Nintendo Switch, features significant graphical improvements including 4K resolution at 60 frames per second—a notable upgrade from the original console’s performance.

The Switch 2 Edition includes new content beyond the original release. Players will be able to unlock a new Blade, the game’s summonable combat companions, and access the Merc Assault game mode. These additions provide returning players with fresh reasons to revisit the expansive JRPG.

To commemorate the release, Nintendo Life republished their original November 2017 review of Xenoblade Chronicles 2, praising Monolith Soft’s work while acknowledging occasional flaws in the design. The remaster represents the developer’s continued expertise in crafting large-scale role-playing experiences.
