Logan Paul’s big Pokémon card gamble just got worse

Logan Paul’s highly publicized Pokémon card livestream event in late July failed to deliver on weeks of hype. The YouTuber and professional wrestler claimed to have spent millions acquiring what he described as the first Pokémon cards ever printed—specifically sticker sheets from CoroCoro magazine distributed in Japan one week before the official trading card game’s launch. These stickers required peeling to separate individual cards.

Paul’s extensive promotional campaign appeared designed as a marketing stunt to artificially inflate the market prices of the rare Pokémon cards he had collected. However, reporting on the event revealed a critical problem: the CoroCoro sticker cards were not what Paul claimed them to be. This contradiction directly undermines the foundation of his marketing push, which relied entirely on these cards’ supposed historical significance and value.

The incident highlights growing concerns about influencer-driven collectibles markets and how unverified claims about rare items can shape consumer investment decisions when amplified through large platforms and audiences.
