Magic’s most tedious card ever makes this Marvel Commander impossible to top

Magic: The Gathering’s Marvel Super Heroes set offers numerous potential Commander options, but Molecule Man emerges as exceptionally problematic for the format. This six-cost colorless 5/5 creature grants all nonland cards in your hand a miracle cost of zero—a devastating ability that breaks the delicate balance of Commander play.

The miracle mechanic allows players to cast a card for its listed miracle cost if it’s the first card drawn during any turn. By reducing that cost to zero, Molecule Man essentially allows players to cast most of their hand entirely for free whenever the card is drawn. This creates a nearly insurmountable board state that opponents cannot realistically compete against in Commander, the popular 100-card singleton format where each player starts with 40 life.

While the character Molecule Man may seem an unlikely choice compared to iconic Marvel heroes like Iron Man or the Hulk, the card’s mechanical design—reflecting the character’s comic book ability to manipulate molecules—translates into an oppressive play pattern. The combination of free casting and the inherent advantage of drawing additional cards each turn makes Molecule Man exceptionally difficult to address once it enters play. This threatens both competitive and casual Commander metagames with a single card that overwhelmingly tilts game outcomes in the controller’s favor.
