Total War: Warhammer 40k’s siege reset is one of the things I’m looking forward to most

Total War: Warhammer 40k’s developers are planning a significant redesign of its siege mechanics, anticipated by players who have long been frustrated by technical issues. Siege battles have been the most consistently problematic component of the Total War series, troubled by pathfinding glitches and unit interaction bugs. The notorious “gate bug” particularly stands out—a recurring issue where destroyed gateways can permanently freeze units in place, effectively removing them from battle. This bug has plagued multiple Total War titles and settings across years, becoming something of an infamous series staple.

The upcoming siege overhaul is generating anticipation among veteran players. One player with over 3,000 hours of Total War experience recently documented experiencing an updated variant of the gate bug while playing as Bhashiva in Total War: Warhammer 3, reporting that pathfinding problems had actually worsened with recent updates. The redesigned siege system represents an attempt to finally address these entrenched technical problems that have frustrated the community for years.
