Everything in this $10 Steam game is either a horse or a nightmare

Horsey Game, a $10 indie title from Captain Games, launched on Steam for Windows PC on February 18. The game’s central premise is absurdist and whimsical: nearly everything encountered in its neon pixelated world—mutant centipedes, muscle car ducks, multi-legged dogs, sentient vehicles, and giraffe-headed alligators—is automatically classified as a “horse,” regardless of biological accuracy.

The gameplay loop revolves around this chaotic categorization system. Players explore the map by vehicle, discovering bizarre creatures and objects. Upon finding something new, players can capture it in their truck, transport it to a lab, and tinker with its DNA. The crucial mechanic: if something is classified as a “horse” in the game’s taxonomy, it can be raced. This means that custom-created hybrid creatures—even those as absurd as an alligator-duck combination—can be entered into races with the potential to win big.

The game’s humor derives from the fundamental mismatch between the “horse” classification and the actual appearance of entities players encounter and create. This creates opportunities for deeply weird genetic experimentation and racing combinations. Captain Games’ release appears designed as a lighthearted sandbox experience emphasizing creative chaos and unexpected outcomes.
