SP Tarkov Shutting Down Following Legal Action From Battlestate Games

SP Tarkov, a beloved single-player modification for Escape from Tarkov, will shut down on or before August 12 following legal action from the game’s developer, Battlestate Games. The fan-supported project received a cease-and-desist notice from Battlestate Games’ legal team demanding that the SPT community disassociate themselves from all Tarkov and Battlestate Games branding.

The announcement came via Discord statement from DrakiaXYZ, one of SP Tarkov’s lead developers and most prominent community figures, who declared: “This is the end of the SPT Project under the current team.” The internal communications from Battlestate Games’ legal department, which surfaced online, prompted the immediate shutdown decision.

SP Tarkov has served as a crucial platform for players seeking single-player experiences in the Tarkov universe, filling a gap the official game does not currently provide. The project has become one of the most significant fan-supported initiatives in the extraction shooter space, garnering substantial community support and engagement.

The shutdown represents a pivotal moment for fan-made game projects and raises questions about the relationship between developers and community-driven modifications. While Battlestate Games has the legal right to protect its intellectual property, the closure highlights the precarious position of fan projects existing in legal gray areas. The August 12 deadline gives the SPT team less than two weeks to wind down operations, marking the end of an era for the single-player community built around the project.
