Champion modder ports the OG ‘Father’ Nier back into the PC remaster, original voiceovers and all
A skilled modder named Elevna has completed a full release of ‘Nier Gestalt ver.1.22474487139…,’ a mod for the 2022 Nier Replicant PC remaster that replaces the young protagonist with the older, grizzled ‘Father’ character from the 2010 original game, including original voiceovers.
The mod addresses a historical regional split in Nier’s character design. The original 2010 game was released in two versions: Japan received Replicant featuring a lean, anime-styled young protagonist, while the West got Gestalt with a more mature, muscular father figure. This decision reflected Square Enix’s desire to appeal to different regional gaming preferences, with Western audiences targeted by the more conventionally masculine design.
Elevna’s mod effectively unifies both character versions in the modern remaster, allowing players to experience the game with their preferred protagonist design and authentic voice acting from the original release.
