Dave Bautista in Talks to Join God of War TV Series as Kratos

Dave Bautista, the former WWE wrestler and star of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, is reportedly in talks to join Amazon Prime Video’s live-action God of War television series in the role of Kratos.

The casting comes after the original actor for Kratos, Ryan Hurst, sustained a severe bicep injury during on-set filming that requires surgery. Rather than delay production while Hurst recovers, Amazon MGM decided to recast the role to keep the series moving forward.

Bautista’s credentials for the role appear well-suited: he brings the imposing physicality required for the character, combined with notable acting experience in major franchises including his role as Drax in the MCU and appearances in films like Dune and Knock at the Cabin. He also played the Bond villain Mr. Hinx in Spectre.

The recasting is part of a larger shake-up to the God of War series cast, with additional actors being replaced alongside Hurst. Production is expected to resume by the end of 2026.

The negotiations are ongoing and not yet official, though Bautista has emerged as the leading candidate for the coveted role of PlayStation’s brooding protagonist. One consideration is that Bautista’s asking price is likely to be considerably higher than Hurst’s original contract, given his established star power and roles in major Hollywood productions.
