‘Deck de France’ is a new free software that can turn your bike trainer into a controller for your Steam Deck
A new free software called “Deck de France” enables users to repurpose smart bike trainers as game controllers for the Steam Deck. The open-source application, shared on GitHub, leverages the Cycling Power Service protocol over Bluetooth Low Energy to connect compatible fitness equipment with the portable gaming device.
The software is compatible with a range of popular smart trainer models from leading manufacturers, including Tacx (NEO, NEO 2T, Flux, Bushido, Vortex, Satori, and Booster), Elite (Suito-T, Justo, Direto, Drivo, Rampa, and Sterzo Smart steering plate), and Wahoo KICKR series devices. While still in early development with limited functionality, Deck de France has demonstrated proof-of-concept compatibility with games such as Rocket League and Forza Horizon.
The project represents an innovative convergence of fitness technology and gaming, allowing cyclists to combine indoor training workouts with interactive entertainment on their Steam Deck. Though currently limited in scope, the application offers a creative alternative input method for a niche audience of fitness-conscious gamers. Developers acknowledge the tool requires further refinement, suggesting future updates may expand game compatibility and enhance controller functionality as the project matures.
