FF7 Remake director had to tell his team to ‘be reasonable’ because they got too excited about the FF14 crossover: ‘That would be putting the cart before the horse’
Final Fantasy 14 is preparing for Evercold, a new set of crossovers marking a milestone for the MMO—both the 8-man raid series and 24-man alliance raid series will feature simultaneous crossover content. The 24-man alliance raid will feature an Evangelion crossover, while the 8-man raid will include a Final Fantasy 7 themed crossover.
FF7 Remake’s director recently had to moderate his team’s enthusiasm about the collaboration, reminding them to “be reasonable” about their excitement. The director’s comment suggests discussions occurred about the scope and ambitions of the crossover, cautioning against overextending the FF7 collaboration in ways that could derail other development priorities.
FF14 has an established history of crossover events with other Final Fantasy titles, including seasonal events with Final Fantasy 15 and the Omega raid series during Stormblood, which heavily featured references to other Final Fantasy games—narratively justified as taking place within a computer simulation. The Evercold crossovers represent an expansion of this tradition, with both raid tiers engaging in crossover content simultaneously for the first time.
