FF7 Revelation Ending Might Be Something ‘No-One Could Have Imagined’

Naoki Hamaguchi, director of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series, has teased that the ending of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation could be either faithful to the original game or something entirely unexpected. In a recent interview with Automaton (via GamesRadar+), Hamaguchi discussed the conclusion of the final installment in the remake trilogy.

Hamaguchi confirmed that the main story will reach its conclusion within the base game itself, rather than being left open-ended or deferred to post-launch content. When asked about the possibility of DLC that might extend the story, he addressed the hypothetical but refrained from providing specific details about the ending’s direction.

When pressed about what players might expect from the finale, Hamaguchi remained notably evasive, stating that he has never revealed to any media outlet what the ending will be like. This carefully guarded approach suggests Square Enix is committed to preserving the ending as a surprise for players.

The director’s comments have fueled speculation among fans about whether FF7 Revelation will stick closely to the narrative beats of the original 1997 game or if it will deviate significantly into new story territory. The Remake trilogy has already made substantial changes to the source material, introducing new plot elements and altering certain character arcs, so the possibility of a completely reimagined ending is plausible.

Hamaguchi’s cryptic remarks indicate that the development team has made deliberate creative choices about how to conclude the trilogy, leaving room for either continuity with the original or a dramatic departure.
