Pokémon Legends: Z-A becomes a dramatically different game with season 15
Pokémon Legends: Z-A continues its tradition of dramatic seasonal competitive shakeups with Season 15, which begins imminently. The new ranked battle season restricts all teams to Water-type Pokémon only, forcing players to rebuild competitive strategies around an aquatic theme. This follows the pattern established by recent seasons—Season 13 banned all legendary and mythical Pokémon from ranked play, while Season 14 restricted teams exclusively to Flying-types.
The Water-type restriction encompasses 24 eligible species drawn from both the base game and the Mega Dimension DLC’s expanded Pokédex. Usable Pokémon range from classic starters like Squirtle, Totodile, and Froaki to their evolved forms, including powerhouses like Blastoise, Feraligatr, and Gyarados, alongside more specialized Water-types such as Binacle, Barbaracle, Clawitzer, and Skrelp.
These rotating type restrictions represent a core design philosophy for Pokémon Legends: Z-A’s competitive ecosystem, encouraging players to experiment with Pokémon beyond their usual lineups and promoting greater diversity in ranked battles. By refreshing viable team compositions each season, the game maintains dynamic competitive environments and rewards adaptability and strategic creativity.
