AI startup Reforged Labs shuts down as the “gap we were selling into is closing”

Reforged Labs, a generative AI platform founded in 2023, is shutting down after three years of operation. The company specialized in AI creative tools and performance marketing solutions for mobile gaming studios. Its client roster included major publishers like Supercell, King, Ubisoft, Playtika, and Scopely, with a team of 17 employees based in Vietnam and the US.

CEO Robert Huynh attributed the shutdown to market limitations and the narrowing opportunity the company was addressing. While the platform found strong product-market fit with large-scale customers—particularly publishers spending over $500 million annually on advertising—Huynh noted that there simply weren’t enough studios of that scale to sustain growth. The company’s best customers signed six-figure contracts, but the limited addressable market prevented scaling beyond its premium niche.

The closure reflects broader challenges facing specialized AI startups. As the AI tools market matures and larger companies develop in-house solutions, the vertical-specific gaps these startups exploited are closing. Huynh indicated that despite strong performance with premium customers, the business model couldn’t expand beyond mobile gaming to justify the company’s original funding ambitions, signaling how quickly AI market opportunities can become saturated or commoditized.
