Riftbound’s Card Templates Are Getting A Big Overhaul in 2027
Riftbound, Riot Games’ League of Legends trading card game, celebrated its first anniversary on August 1 during GenCon. Since launching in late 2025, the game has undergone extensive refinement through dozens of balance changes, rules updates, errata, and card bans.
Riot Games released a series of State of the Game updates this week announcing major changes coming to Riftbound. The most significant overhaul will arrive in January 2027 alongside the game’s sixth set, Legacy, which introduces comprehensive card template redesigns.
The updates included an in-depth discussion with Riftbound’s leadership team—Dave Guskin, Chengran Chai, and Nik Davidson—edited by the game’s Editor-in-Chief Trick Jarrett. The conversation reflected on the game’s first-year performance and the reasoning behind the upcoming structural changes.
