Roblox says new ‘Slim’ tech will let complex avatars run on low-end Android as it pushes mobile-first game creation
Roblox has unveiled Slim, a new avatar compositing technology designed to enable complex avatars to run efficiently on low-end Android devices. The technology was introduced by CEO David Baszucki during the company’s Q2 2026 earnings call as part of the Roblox Incubator programme, reflecting broader efforts to optimize high-performance avatars and worlds across both budget Android devices and high-end PCs.
The Slim technology represents a key component of Roblox’s strategic shift toward mobile-first game creation. Baszucki stated that the company expects mobile devices to become the primary platform for game development going forward, with creators able to build everything from 2D puzzle games to complex 3D multiplayer experiences directly on mobile devices. These mobile-created titles can subsequently be enhanced using Roblox Studio on desktop.
The initiative is closely linked to Build, Roblox’s new AI-powered creation tool, which aims to democratize game development by making it accessible on mobile platforms. This represents a significant strategic reorientation, positioning mobile not as a secondary port target for existing games, but as the foundation for initial game creation and development.
