Shift Up, developer of the Stellar Blade series, has faced significant player backlash following the release of an AI-generated music video for Blood Rain, the upcoming sequel. Released on July 31, the video features protagonist Evie singing and dancing to the pop song “Wanna be in Love” in a China-inspired city setting. However, the video displays obvious artificial intelligence artifacts, including nonsensical text, inconsistent character models, and an airbrushed, blurred aesthetic characteristic of AI-generated content.
The release sparked harsh criticism on social media as players objected to AI technology being used for promotional content. Responding to the backlash, Shift Up’s CEO defended the decision, with the company’s official statement asserting that “Evie was created by our talented artists” and asking viewers to “view the work with this understanding in mind.”
