Apex Legends Reportedly Adding Ranked Ban System Like Rainbow Six Siege

Respawn Entertainment is reportedly considering introducing a character ban system to Apex Legends’ Ranked play, drawing inspiration from established competitive titles like Rainbow Six Siege and League of Legends. The proposed feature would allow players or teams to ban specific legends from matches, potentially disrupting the current ranked meta where certain characters consistently dominate the competitive landscape.

Currently, Apex Legends relies on periodic balance adjustments—buffs and nerfs—to manage character popularity and effectiveness. However, these changes only moderately shift which legends are preferred, with a core meta remaining relatively stable over time. A ban system would fundamentally alter ranked strategy by removing popular or overpowered characters from play on a match-by-match basis, forcing teams to adapt their compositions and develop counter-strategies against diverse legend pools.

In competitive ecosystems like Rainbow Six Siege, operator bans have become central to tactical depth and draft strategy, enabling teams to counter opposing playstyles and prevent any single character from dominating an entire season. League of Legends similarly uses champion bans as a core competitive mechanic. Implementing a similar system in Apex Legends could increase ranked gameplay variety, reduce frustration from facing the same overpowered legends repeatedly, and provide additional strategic layers to competitive matches.

While still reportedly in development, the feature represents one of the most significant potential changes to Apex Legends’ ranked structure in the game’s history, signaling Respawn’s commitment to keeping the competitive scene fresh and engaging as the live-service title continues to evolve.
