Larian drops new Baldur’s Gate 3 stats and you’re all monsters: More non-Durge players killed Alfira than Durge and, worst of all, 9,000 people played on portrait monitors

Larian Studios released a new batch of player statistics from Baldur’s Gate 3 as the game celebrated its third anniversary, offering insight into how players engage with the sprawling RPG.

The statistics reveal notably high NPC death rates, particularly among Dark Urge playthroughs. Alfira, a bard NPC, was killed in 48% of Dark Urge runs, though surprisingly, more non-Dark Urge players have murdered her overall. Other casualties include cleric Isobel (62% of Dark Urge runs), tiefling leader Zevlor (48%), and gnome Wulbren (32%). These figures suggest that players embracing the Dark Urge origin storyline lean heavily into murderous roleplay, embodying the character’s sinister nature.

Beyond the grim statistics, the data reveals unusual player behavior choices. Nearly 9,000 players opted to play Baldur’s Gate 3 in portrait mode—an unconventional 9:16 aspect ratio unsuitable for the expansive RPG—sparking curiosity about their motivations for such an unorthodox display orientation.

The modding ecosystem continues to flourish, with 500 million mod downloads recorded and 13,000 mods uploaded to the platform. These figures underscore the game’s sustained cultural presence and vibrant creative community. The statistics maintain Larian’s tradition of sharing entertaining player behavior data, following previous revelations that captured the whimsy of its player base.
