Guardians of the Galaxy’s Dave Bautista could take over Kratos role in God of War live-action show, report claims
Dave Bautista, the former WWE star and actor known for portraying Drax the Destroyer in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy films, is reportedly in talks to assume the role of Kratos in Amazon’s upcoming God of War live-action series.
The recasting comes after lead actor Ryan Hurst, known for Sons of Anarchy, suffered a bicep tear while on set. The injury has an extended recovery period, likely preventing Hurst from resuming his physically demanding role until next year at the earliest. Given the production timeline concerns, Amazon opted to recast the iconic character rather than pause filming.
Bautista has an established working relationship with Amazon, having appeared in films like The Wrecking Crew and My Spy. His transition from professional wrestling to mainstream acting in the 2010s has been successful, establishing him as an action star capable of handling physically demanding roles.
However, some industry observers have noted potential concerns about Bautista’s age—he is currently 57—particularly if the God of War series plans multiple seasons. While Bautista could build muscle mass relatively quickly to embody Kratos’s imposing physique, casting an actor in his late 50s for what could be a long-running series presents considerations for production longevity.
