Koei Tecmo is putting out an “AI chat RPG” based on the Atelier Ryza series, and it sounds bleak
Koei Tecmo and SpiralAI have announced RyzaChat: Your Midsummer Dream Story with AI Ryza, an “AI chat RPG” launching on iOS and Android. The game is entirely centered around conversations with an AI chatbot version of Ryza, the protagonist from the Atelier Ryza series.
Gameplay begins with players sending messages to help Ryza construct a boat to escape Kurken Island, unlocking a world map. Players then receive AI-generated quests completed primarily through dialogue interactions. Despite its chat-based structure, the game incorporates core Atelier mechanics including exploration, material gathering, combat, synthesis, and construction, featuring the full cast from the original trilogy. A dedicated Chat Mode allows for additional conversations with AI Ryza outside quest progression.
The title exemplifies the growing trend of AI integration in gaming, though the announcement has received mixed reactions regarding whether AI-driven conversation systems effectively translate to traditional RPG gameplay expectations.
