Onimusha: Way of the Sword’s bad guy has ‘an edge of eroticism’, confirms Capcom dev — he’s ‘very alluring in the way that he moves’

Capcom’s upcoming action game Onimusha: Way of the Sword features an intentionally seductive antagonist, according to Art Director Hiroyuki Nara in a recent interview. The main villain, Sasaki Ganryu, is described as having “an edge of eroticism” and being “very alluring in the way that he moves.” This character design reflects deliberate creative choices by the development team aiming to create a memorable and visually distinctive antagonist.

Both the game’s protagonist, Miyamoto Musashi, and its antagonist, Sasaki Ganryu, draw inspiration from real historical Japanese sword masters who lived during Japan’s Edo period. This historical grounding informs the characters’ development and the game’s world-building. Sasaki Ganryu has already made an impression on players through appearances in the game’s publicly released demo.

The character design approach illustrates how Capcom is balancing historical authenticity with modern game development aesthetics for Onimusha: Way of the Sword, prioritizing compelling character presentations as a core element of the game’s appeal.
