Circana analytics firm has released data on the most-played games across PlayStation and Xbox, revealing that the gaming landscape on consoles remains remarkably consistent. According to Mat Piscatella, senior director at Circana, the top 20 most-played titles are nearly identical between the two platforms, based on weekly active users in the US.
The analysis demonstrates that console gaming continues to be dominated by long-running live service games and annualized sports franchises. This trend has persisted for years with little meaningful variation, highlighting a stable pattern in player preferences. Fortnite is specifically called out as part of this landscape. The data ranks games by weekly active user counts, with each title’s previous weekly ranking also provided for comparison.
This persistent pattern reflects the industry’s broader shift toward games-as-a-service models and franchise-based titles that maintain player bases through regular updates and seasonal content. The dominance of these titles over one-off single-player experiences or new IP suggests that console players continue to gravitate toward games offering ongoing engagement and community features.
