Diablo 4 players have long wanted to bring their Eternal characters into the Seasonal realm, and now they’re getting their wish, sort of
Blizzard has announced a long-requested feature for Diablo 4 called Rebirth, which is now available for testing on the Public Test Realm. This feature enables players to bring their characters from the Eternal realm—the game’s permanent mode—into Seasonal content, addressing a significant player complaint.
Diablo 4 operates with two separate character instances: Eternal and Seasonal. The Eternal realm functions as the game’s default, permanent state where characters persist indefinitely. While the Eternal realm does receive gameplay updates and balance changes through patches, it does not participate in the live service seasonal content that Blizzard regularly releases.
The Seasonal realm receives regular content updates and special events tied to themed seasons, but players have not been able to use their progress and characters from Eternal mode in this content. This separation is relatively unique to Diablo 4 among modern action RPGs, where most games allow players to experience all content with their existing characters.
The lack of crossover between these two modes has been a persistent source of frustration for the player base, as it created a choice between maintaining a permanent character and experiencing seasonal content. The Rebirth feature represents a solution to this problem, with the exact mechanics available for community feedback during the Public Test Realm phase.
